The Setup

Each player gets 6 face-down cards in their chamber and 3 cards in hand. The rest of the deck becomes the draw pile.

While cards remain in the draw pile, players must keep at least 3 cards in hand. Once the draw pile is gone, players must empty their hand before playing their chamber cards blind.

The first player to clear both hand and chamber wins.

The Start

The player with the lowest card starts. In Brown Bullet, 4 is the lowest card.

2 and 3 are technically "lower" than 4, but they are not counted as such because they are special cards (see below).

To see who has the lowest card, players call upward from 4 until someone claims the lowest available starter. If more than one player has it, the first clockwise from the dealer begins.

How to Play

Players take turns clockwise. On your turn, play the same value or higher than the top card on the pile, unless a special card changes the rule (see next section).

  • You may play more than 1 card of the same number at the same time.
  • You may play a run of 3 or more ascending consecutive number cards together.
  • These cannot be combined. You can't play more than 1 card of the same number in a run.
  • If you cannot play, you pick up the entire pile of played cards.

Trick shots

Special Cards

  • 2 resets the pile to 2 and can be played on anything.
  • 3 invisible and can be played on anything. The next player should play the card lying underneath it.
  • 5 get another turn.
  • 9 next player must play the same or lower.
  • 10 clears the pile and gives you another turn.
  • Joker clears the pile and can be played on anything.

When playing a run of 3 or more cards, only the highest card maintains it's special power. For example:

  • A run of 9-10-J doesn't clear the pile, but 8-9-10 does
  • A run of 3-4-5 does let you play again, but the 3 is not invisible
Dead Man's Draw panel

4 of a kind

Dead Man's Draw

If 4 cards of the same value are played in a row, the pile is cleared an goes out of play.

The player who plays the fourth matching card makes a Dead Man’s Draw and takes another turn.

The Brown Bullet

If you cannot play and picking up the pile leaves you with 10 or more cards in hand, you may fire a Brown Bullet.

Swap the worst card from your hand with a face-down chamber card from another player.

TIP: The player who's card has been swapped, cannot look to see which card they have received, but they should try to remember which chamber the brown bullet has been placed in!
